How does it work?
Restylane® & Perlane® are part of group known as 'fillers'. The clear gel contains non-animal hyaluronic acid and water - hyaluronic acid is a tissue-friendly substance closely resembling the hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in the body. Small amounts are injected using a very fine needle. The gel works by replenishing nature's supply of hyaluronic acid, increasing the skin volume and smoothing out the lines for a softer look or fuller lips.

How long does the treatment take?
The procedure takes about 10-20 minutes and the results are instant. No skin tests are required.

Who carries out the treatment?
The procedures will be performed by Dr. Gabrielle McKeever, who has specialised in the cosmetic field administering Collagen, Restylane® and Perlane® fillers for over five years treating more than one thousand patients.

What areas can be treated?
Restylane® smooths out facial contours and facial lines around the eyes, frown lines and lines round the mouth, on the cheek, chin indentations and the backs of the hands.

Does it hurt?
No, as doctors do all the treatments we are able to use local anaesthetic injections which allow the treatment to be painfree and comfortable.

Is it safe?
More than 6 million treatments have been carried out since the launch of Restylane® in 1996. Some common injection-related reactions might occur after a Restylane® injection; they typically resolve spontaneously within one or two days after injection. These reactions include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site. Inflammatory reactions may last for up to two weeks in rare cases. After a lip enhancement, your lips may be swollen for several days.

Who is suitable for these treatments?
Almost everyone apart from those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can Restylane® be used if I have had laser treatment or a chemical peel?
If you have recently had some kind of cosmetic treatment, it is recommended you wait until the area is totally healed and the skin is back to its normal condition. This usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.

Can it be used with Wrinkle Reduction?
Yes, sometimes to create the best effect they can be used together.

Are there any side effects?
After the treatment there may be some redness and minimal swelling which normally settles in 1-2 days. Very occasionally patients can suffer some bruising at the injection site. With lip enhancement, it is wise to choose your treatment time with care since your lips may become swollen and appear slightly uneven for a few days.

How long do the effects last?
Restylane® effects are long lasting but not permanent so you are always in control of your looks. 6-9 months is a general range - factors, such as skin type, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded by the patient and the injection technique of the practitioner all affect the true length of time.

Facial lines and facial shaping requires follow-up treatment after approximately 6-12 months. Lip enhancement after approximately 6 months. Skin rejuvenation and deep hydration is slightly different. After the initial intense treatment of 3 sessions every 2-3 weeks, follow-up sessions are normally recommended around every 6 months.

What happens if I do not have a top up?
Correction of the wrinkles and the enhanced lip effect will subside gradually until your skin looks like it did before the treatment.

Are there any precautions I should take before or after treatment?
Restylane® should not be used in or near skin sites where there are or have been active skin disease, inflammation or related conditions. Nor should it be injected into an area where a permanent implant has been placed. Restylane® has not been tested in pregnant or breast-feeding women.

You can carry on life as normal as any redness can be covered with makeup. You should leave the treated area alone for 48 hours to let it settle. It is advisable to not have a facial or similar treatment that may disturb the products or expose the newly treated areas to strong sunlight for 2-3 days.

Are there any long term risks?
No because it is completely natural and over time can be completely broken down by the body.
